We had a chat with POLOVICH to talk about his origins,   collaborations and upcoming plans.
EG: Hey POLOVICH, welcome to EG. Take us back to the beginning. How did your journey into electronic music first start, and were there particular artists or people who inspired you to pursue it seriously?
POLOVICH: Thanks for the invite. My journey really started with my father. He was always listening to electronic music, so I grew up surrounded by it from a very young age. When I was eight years old, he took me to see David Guetta perform in Slovenia. I still remember how much that experience affected me. Seeing the energy of the crowd and what was happening on stage inspired me so much that I knew I wanted to do this myself one day.
EG: Beatport has played an important role in electronic music for years. How important do you think Beatport support and chart success can be in a DJ and producer’s career, and what has your own experience with the platform been like?
POLOVICH: Beatport can have a huge impact on an artist’s career. A lot of people in the industry follow the charts, so when a track starts doing well, it can bring a lot more attention and new opportunities. I experienced that myself when ‘Affection’ reached #3 on the Indie Dance chart and broke into the Top 20 overall, which was a huge milestone for me. Later, ‘Foot on the Gas‘ reached #1 on  Indie Dance Hype chart. As my tracks started climbing the charts, I noticed more people from the industry reaching out, more DJs supporting my music, and new opportunities coming in. The plattform has definitely played an important role in getting my music in front of a wider international audience and helping me take the next steps in my career.

EG: Coming from a relatively small country like Slovenia, your music has found an audience far beyond home. Why do you think it has resonated particularly well with listeners and DJs in the United States?
POLOVICH: I think a big part of it is that I’ve always been drawn to the kind of electronic music that connects with audiences in the United States. Performing there was also always a goal of mine, so in a way I feel like I manifested it. A lot of DJs started playing my music during their shows in the U.S., and from there I began noticing more and more people from America discovering my music and reaching out to me. It happened very naturally, and it’s been really exciting to see that connection grow from so far away.
EG:  Vintage Culture recently featured one of your tracks in his interview with Complex, among a relatively small selection of music. What was your reaction to seeing your record included, and what do you think it was about that particular track that connected with him?
POLOVICH: I was so happy and honestly really honored to see it included. Vintage Culture is an artist I have a lot of respect for, so seeing one of my tracks featured among such a small selection of music meant a lot to me. I think the track connected with him because it has the kind of energy that works really well in his sets, while still having something different about it that makes it stand out. I can’t say exactly what made him choose it, but seeing it connect with an artist at his level was a really special moment for me.
“I always try to create something fresh and unique rather than repeating what I’ve already done”
EG: We heard that going to Tomorrowland with your family has become something of a tradition for you. What was that moment like when you were there together and heard FISHER play your track on the Tomorrowland stage?
POLOVICH: It was one of those moments I’ll remember for the rest of my life. When we went to see FISHER perform, I knew there was a chance he might play my track because I had already seen him playing it on his socials, so I was paying really close attention to his set. When he finally dropped it, I was probably the happiest guy on earth. It was also the first time I had ever heard my own music being played live on a sound system and stage of that scale, and being there with my family made the whole moment even more special.
EG:  Collaboration and recognition from peers can be especially meaningful in electronic music. Which established artists, producers, promoters, or other industry figures have played an important role in your development, and what opportunities or collaborations emerged from those relationships?
POLOVICH: The first established artist to really support my music was Matroda. Our collaboration, ‘The Funk You Want,’ essentially launched the POLOVICH project in 2023, and that opened the door to more collaborations and release opportunities. Then in 2025, AYYBO played a big role in my development. He started supporting my music during Miami Music Week and later signed three of my tracks to his label. That eventually led to Lee Foss signing my music as well, and from there I started seeing even more support from major DJs, new collaborations, release opportunities, and eventually performance opportunities. It really became a snowball effect, and I feel like it’s still growing today.

EG: Your career has developed significantly over the last few years. Looking back from where you are today, which releases, performances, or other moments do you consider the major turning points that took your career from Slovenia onto the international electronic music circuit?
POLOVICH: The track that definitely deserves the most credit for putting me on the map internationally is my remix of Eurythmics’ ‘Sweet Dreams.’ I actually started making it just for fun, without really expecting anything from it, and it ended up becoming my most supported track to date. That track was a major turning point for me because it started reaching people far beyond Slovenia and introduced the POLOVICH project to a much wider international audience. It was one of the first times I really felt that something I had made at home could travel around the world and create opportunities for me internationally.
EG: Your music has received support from artists including Dom Dolla, John Summit, FISHER, RÜFÜS DU SOL, Vintage Culture, Alok, Max Styler, It’s Murph, Carlita and many more. Which moments of support have been particularly significant to you, and when did you first realize that your records were regularly reaching artists operating at that level?
POLOVICH: RÜFÜS DU SOL playing my ‘Sweet Dreams’ remix for months in their sets around the world was definitely one of the most significant moments for me. Vintage Culture supporting my music has also meant a lot, and seeing Max Styler play my music in person before eventually meeting him at Tomorrowland this year was really special. AYYBO has also been a huge supporter, playing almost every track I’ve sent him at shows around the world. I finally got to meet him during Miami Music Week this year, which was an amazing full-circle moment. I think I really understood what was happening when these stopped feeling like isolated moments and became something consistent. I would send out or release new music and keep seeing it reach artists at that level. That’s when it really hit me that my music was traveling around the world on its own.

EG: There’s a lot of music being released in the House space right now. What do you think makes a POLOVICH record recognizable, and how has that identity developed over the years?
POLOVICH: I don’t think I have one exact formula or sound that defines every POLOVICH record. I always try to create something fresh and unique rather than repeating what I’ve already done. Sometimes that comes from mixing different genres, experimenting with unexpected sounds, or just approaching a production in a different way. Over time, I think people who listen to more of my catalog can start recognizing certain patterns and details that connect the records. Finding your identity takes years of experimenting, and I’m still discovering and developing mine with every track I make.
EG: You’re also preparing a new single ‘Dirty Dancing.” What is the story behind the track, when and where did you make it, what inspired it, and how does it connect to the sound you’ve been developing?
POLOVICH: The idea for ‘Dirty Dancing’ started earlier this year when LexBlaze sent me a vocal he had made, and I immediately knew I wanted to work with it. The lyrics instantly gave me that club feeling of people just living in the moment, dancing the night away and not thinking about anything else but the music. The record also reflects where I am with my sound right now. I’m always experimenting and trying to make something that feels fresh rather than following one specific formula. ‘Dirty Dancing’ felt different and exciting to me, and that’s ultimately why it made the cut as something I wanted to put out into the world.
EG: As your career continues to grow, what does success ultimately look like for you? Is it mainly about taking the music and performances further, or is there something beyond that you want to build over time?
POLOVICH: Of course I want to keep pushing the music and performances as far as I can, but I’ve always thought about me as someone that can become much bigger than just releasing records and playing shows. My long-term vision is to build a recognizable artist brand and create an entire world around the POLOVICH project. I want it to bring together like-minded people who connect with the music, the energy and what the project represents. A community where people feel like they belong and are free to express themselves. Music will always be at the center of everything, but ultimately I want something  to  people can identify with and feel part of.

POLOVICH’s Dirty Dancing will be out on September 25th, 2026. Pre-oder and download here.
