DJ Susan Makes His Dirtybird Debut With ‘Transformation’

DJ Susan’s debut on Dirtybird feels like one of those moments. Out now via the long-running imprint, ‘Transformation’ sees the Hood Politics boss step into the label’s weird and wonderful universe with a record built for packed rooms and questionable decisions after 2am.

Some labels just make sense for certain artists.

Built around thick rolling low-end, sharp percussion and chopped-up vocal snippets, ‘Transformation’ wastes very little time getting to work. The groove stays locked from the off, while warped textures and twitchy vocal edits give it that slightly unhinged edge that Dirtybird fans tend to love.

It’s playful without turning novelty, and heavy enough to do damage whether you’re hearing it in a sweaty warehouse, on a festival stage or at one of those sunrise sets where everyone suddenly finds a second wind.

It also marks a bit of a full-circle moment for DJ Susan. After appearing at Northern Nights Music Festival in 2024, he’s set to return this summer for Dirtybird Campout x Northern Nights Music Festival, further cementing his place within the wider Dirtybird family.

Outside of his own Hood Politics Records empire, Susan has continued to rack up releases on respected imprints including Glasgow Underground, Repopulate Mars and Helix Records, building a reputation for records that don’t overcomplicate things, they just work.

And ‘Transformation’ does exactly that.

We’ve got the premiere on Data Transmission, give it a spin below and grab your copy now.
