Pet Shop Boys have announced a new album, ‘A Man From The Future,’ created in collaboration with Alan Turing biographer Andrew Hodges, to be released on October 9, 2026, via Parlophone Records.
The eight-track LP explores the life and legacy of the pioneering mathematician and cryptanalyst. Originally conceived for a 2014 BBC Proms performance, the duo revised the piece to feature a heavier electronic emphasis alongside intimate string arrangements by composer Sven Helbig, performed by the Manchester Camerata Octet. Actress Juliet Stevenson provides spoken-word narration adapted from Hodges’ book Alan Turing: The Enigma.
The record spans Turing’s early life, his wartime codebreaking at Bletchley Park, his contributions to computing, and his subsequent persecution and death. The final track incorporates archival statements from former Prime Minister Gordon Brown addressing Turing’s historic royal pardon.
“Our motive in creating this work was to make a musical memorial to Alan Turing who gave so much to his country and the world and was rewarded for it by being prosecuted for his sexuality. Alan made a massive contribution to the defeat of Germany in World War II and was a pioneer of computing, imagining a world with intelligent computers. He also looked forward to a time when being gay would be accepted as normal. In both his professional and private lives, he was ahead of his time,” Pet Shop Boys commented.
The duo will celebrate the release with a special listening event and conversation alongside Hodges on October 8 at the Imperial War Museum North in Manchester, preceded by a BBC radio broadcast premiere in October.
