Renegade Riddims: Singr

Back

If you like your Drum & Bass wrapped in atmosphere, weight and late-night intent, then it is time to lock into Singr‘s story. Based in Ōtautahi, Christchurch, Singr has been quietly but confidently shaping his own corner of the underground, delivering music built for heads-down moments, dark rooms and long blends that stretch well past closing time.

Singr isn’t chasing trends. He’s stitching together influences that run deep, pulling from a childhood soaked in 80s sounds, Techno, Hip Hop and House, then funnelling that musical DNA straight into Drum & Bass. The result is a sound that feels grounded and futuristic at the same time. Weighty low end, crisp drums, and atmospheres that hang in the air like fog in a warehouse at 3am.

Singr is a Drum & Bass producer who understands restraint. His tracks breathe. Grooves roll rather than rush. Basslines glide and flex, built for proper systems and proper spaces. You can hear it in the detail, from subtle drum edits to melodic touches that never overstay their welcome. This is music made for those moments when the DJ knows exactly when to let a track ride.

That approach hasn’t gone unnoticed. Releases have landed on respected imprints including Soul in Motion Records, SBK Recordings, 31 Records and Footnotes, each one reinforcing Singr’s reputation as a producer with both taste and technical finesse. These are labels known for depth and longevity, not quick hits, and Singr fits that mould perfectly.

Soul In Motion Records have opened a new chapter in their discography with SIMX, a series designed to give proper focus to artists who’ve emerged through the label’s ‘Artwerk’ VA releases. Instead of leaving key tracks scattered across compilations, SIMX brings those moments together in a more considered way, pairing standout cuts with exclusive new material and giving each artist space to breathe.

The series launches with SIMX1 from Singr, one of the most consistent voices in the Artwerk catalogue. The EP collects four of his standout contributions and introduces the previously unreleased ‘Mode 4’, pulling his deep, emotive and forward-thinking take on Drum & Bass into a cohesive statement, with artwork that subtly nods to his journey within the Soul In Motion family.

We premiered ‘Mode 4’ earlier today, check out the track below and grab it here:

Support across the scene for Singr has been strong and well-earned. Names like Need For Mirrors, Reflect Reaction, Lenzman, DRS, Tokyo Prose, LSB and Doc Scott have all backed his music, a clear signal that this sound resonates far beyond one city or scene. When selectors of that calibre take notice, you know the music is doing something right.

Right now, Singr is still pushing forward, exploring new sonic spaces and refining his craft without losing that core identity. This is not about hype cycles. It is about evolution, consistency and keeping Drum & Bass rooted where it belongs, on the dancefloor.

To coincide with the release on Soul In Motion, Singr has curated a brand new, exclusive mix for us. Featuring some of his tracks and music from the likes of Need For Mirrors, Counter Culture, dBridge, Calibre and more.
