A new publication exploring the intersection of nightlife and cinema is set to launch in London this month. ‘After Hours: Clubbing On Film’ will debut on Saturday, April 18th, 2026, with a public event at Soho’s Reference Point.
Edited by Ana David, Maria Ferreira, and Tabitha Thorlu-Bangura, the book expands on a 2023 film series held at Porto’s Batalha Centro de Cinema. The project examines how club spaces have been represented on screen, focusing on their role as environments for social exchange, emotional release, and cultural meaning.
The launch event will feature readings and a panel discussion with Ana David, Onyeka Igwe, Philippa Snow, and Tabitha Thorlu-Bangura. The program will also include a DJ set by Amar Ediriwira and a screening of ‘Playback’, a short film centered on the lives of transgender women and drag queens in Córdoba, Argentina, during the late 1980s.
‘After Hours: Clubbing On Film’ includes essays by McKenzie Wark, alongside interviews and contributions from Jeremy Deller, Mark Leckey, and Rebecca Salvadori. Published by Batalha Centro de Cinema, the bilingual edition spans 272 pages.
